Semiconductor materials are those that are transmitters of electric current and, at the same time, are insulators. Whether they work in one way or another depends on several factors such as the ambient temperature, the magnetic field to which it is exposed or the type of atomic structure it has. On our planet, we find five elements that are semiconductors: Silicon, germanium, sulfur, boron and cadmium. The most used in industries are silicon and germanium.

What are semiconductor materials used for? Today, in the age of communication and advanced technology, semiconductors are essential for the manufacture of all the technological devices that we use daily and on which we largely depend for our work, our social life and our entertainment. Microprocessors, transistors, LED lights and other technological objects require semiconductor materials for their operation.

Technology advances every day and its purpose is to make the lives of human beings easier. A few years ago, it seemed almost impossible for us to do the things we do today. It had always been seen as something distant, something that our descendants would experience, but not us.

The reality has turned out very different. When we imagined seeing people projected as a hologram and being able to talk to them in real time, it was a distant dream, and yet today we continuously hold online meetings, conferences, meetups and video calls. We imagined that cars could fly, however, we have managed to practically drive autonomously.
