Top Shares of Paper and derived products (Basic materials) NYSE

Since we were little, we have used paper to draw, write and even make figures with them. Our generation has always had access to paper and it seems to us to be one of the most basic elements in the school and professional environment. It is true that this image has been changing in recent years due to technological advances and the arrival of electronic devices in our lives, but we will talk about that later.

To assess the importance of paper we have to take a look back and think about its evolution. From the paintings on the stones, the engravings on them, through papyrus and parchment, the human being has always had the urgent need to communicate through symbols. These systems were not perfect: the stone could not be moved or they were very heavy slabs and the parchments, which were the skins of goats and rams, were very expensive. Depending on the territory you were in, human beings used one material or another to communicate in writing.

In China, old textiles began to be used to make paper, which brought that knowledge to the Arabs. The Arabs spread papermaking throughout Europe after passing through Spain. In the 14th century, many shirts were commercialized and this allowed the existence of many remnants and old clothes with which to make paper on a large scale and at a good price. After inventing the printing press, books began to be something accessible to everyone and that allowed the culturalization of a greater percentage of the population.

From that moment to the present, paper has continued to undergo changes and is currently made from the wood of trees. You can find paper of many thicknesses, shapes, sizes, colors and all at a fairly affordable price.

Returning to the topic of new technologies, it is true that 30 years ago everyone communicated through letters, in schools there were only books and notebooks, the stories of our favorite writers were only in physical format... and today in day everything is compressed on a computer or even the mobile phone. The Internet has changed our lives and we are very aware of it, but that does not mean that paper has ceased to exist. A huge amount of paper is still used in the world and it remains an indispensable industry for society.
