The specialized trade is one that specializes in a specific field, that has qualified personnel for its sale and customer service and that does not usually leave its specialty. In this case, we are going to talk about those retail companies that are specialized in something specific.
Like everything in this life, specialized retail versus generics has advantages and disadvantages, so we are going to analyze them to decide what is best for each case.
The greatest advantage that we find in specialized stores is the professionalism and training of the people who work in that sector. Normally, to start working in a place like this, you have to have specific prior training in the sector to which it refers, in this way, they will be able to serve customers and carry out their work in a more professional and effective way. In the case of not needing that previous training, they are usually trained by colleagues or an internship period.
This business format is usually used to create a strong position in the minds of consumers and, in this way, when they need the product they sell, it appears in their minds at once, without thinking of competition or department stores that, along they have it better, but they are worse positioned.
The biggest disadvantage is that, in the event of a decrease in demand for that sector or products, it is very difficult for the company to redirect its positioning to derivatives or totally different products.
